UNICEF recently shared this photo of a young girl raising her hand in a tent classroom at a UNICEF-supported camp near Baghdad, Iraq. This young girl is one of nearly 250 million children affected by conflicts around the world.

Children who are forced to flee their homes often end up without access to education and other necessities. UNICEF and UN agencies work on the ground to provide life-saving aid to families in need, including helping children continue learning.

Along with prefabricated and tent schools such as the one pictured above, UNICEF provides training for teachers and backpacks, supplies, snacks and transportation for students. In Iraq alone, UNICEF has conducted 33 emergency education workshops, training 1,260 teachers, school principals, and counselors.
