About the author

Julie Willig

Author Picture Life for me started just outside Chicago and took me to Nashville for college at Vanderbilt University, where I studied Neuroscience and public health. Along the way, two experiences in particular have had a big impact on getting me to where I am today. First, I was working at an HIV/AIDS clinic in Kampala, Uganda during college. That opportunity opened my eyes to the complexity of issues facing girls around the world and made me realize how fortunate I was to have my education and good health. Second was working for the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. I loved traveling to a new place and talking to people about the issues that really matter to me! I joined the UN Foundation in 2009 and first started working on the Nothing But Nets campaign (check it out at www.NothingButNets.net!). I knew I wanted to work for Girl Up as soon as I heard about the campaign because it was the perfect opportunity for a feminist interested in global health and education. What I love most about my job is traveling the country to meet incredible supporters and empowering girls to educate themselves and take action! I'm the one you'll find talking to clubs, schools, organizations and our teen advisors about how they can support their sisters around the world.
